Claude Monet exhibition to explore the concept of time in Paris
To mark the centenary of Claude Monet’s death, the Musée de l’Orangerie and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris are hosting a major exhibition titled ‘Monet, peindre le temps’ (Monet, Painting Time). The exhibition focuses on the artist's obsessive quest to capture the fleeting nature of time, particularly through his series of works such as the Cathedrals, Haystacks, and Water Lilies.
The event will feature nearly forty paintings, primarily from the collections of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Marmottan Monet, alongside international loans. In addition to the physical works, the program includes a virtual reality experience titled ‘Claude Monet au fil de l’eau’, documentary archives, a podcast, and contemporary art loans that echo Monet’s legacy.
A companion catalogue accompanies the exhibition, utilizing multidisciplinary research from philosophy, history of science, and the humanities to examine how Monet’s work dialogues with the rise of photography and cinema and the accelerating pace of industrialization.
