Claudia Arlett Espino resigns as Executive Secretary of INE

Claudia Arlett Espino has submitted her irrevocable resignation as the Executive Secretary of Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE), effective September 9, 2026. In her letter to Council President Guadalupe Taddei Zavala, Espino cited health reasons and the need to seek a better balance between her professional and personal life.

Espino noted that the high level of demand required to organize the 2026-2027 Concurrent Electoral Process—which involves renewing federal and state positions across all 32 entities—made it difficult to maintain her personal and family connections. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and stated her willingness to assist in the transition process to ensure the continued normal operation of the Executive Secretariat.
