San Gerardo Hospital surgeons perform complex hybrid surgery on 85-year-old
An 85-year-old patient has successfully undergone a complex hybrid surgical procedure at the Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori in Monza, Italy, following a third rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
The patient, who has faced life-threatening complications related to the aneurysm over the past fourteen years, arrived at the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. Medical examinations revealed a new rupture caused by the detachment of a previous surgical reconstruction.
A vascular surgery team, led by Vittorio Segramora, performed a hybrid intervention that combined endovascular techniques with traditional surgery. The procedure involved inserting a new endoprosthesis inside the existing one via the groin, while simultaneously performing a bypass to ensure adequate blood flow to the lower limbs. The patient was discharged in good condition after a few days.
