Claudia Sheinbaum announces 190 billion‑peso investment plan for Veracruz

President Claudia Sheinbaum visited Coatzacoalcos on 5 June and unveiled a federal investment package of roughly 190 billion pesos for Veracruz, to be allocated through 2030. The funding targets the revitalisation of the state’s petrochemical sector with about 93 billion pesos for rehabilitating existing complexes and building new facilities, alongside 18 billion pesos for road upgrades and more than 12 billion pesos for water‑supply, drainage and flood‑protection projects.

The plan is intended to generate tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs, stimulate supply‑chain activity, and improve living standards for families across the region. Veracruz, a key economic hub with strategic ports and industry, currently faces high unemployment – over 79,000 jobless according to INEGI – and below‑target formal employment growth. Officials hope the investment will restore the state’s historic economic dynamism.
