Claudia Sheinbaum announces first National School Choir Contest
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has launched the first National School Choir Contest (Concurso Nacional de Coros Escolares) to expand musical and artistic access for children and adolescents in public schools. During the presentation at Palacio Nacional, Sheinbaum expressed her goal of ensuring that every public school in the country has at least one choir.
The competition will feature three categories: Primary, Secondary, and Mexican Sign Language (LSM). According to Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo, the contest will proceed through state-level stages in November and December, followed by regional stages in January and February.
As part of the initiative, Sheinbaum invited participants to perform in the Zócalo of Mexico City on March 28. The Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza, noted that the contest integrates with existing artistic training programs such as 'Semilleros Creativos' and 'Cuicacallis' singing houses.
