Claudia Sheinbaum concludes national accountability tour in Mexico City
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo concluded her 12-day nationwide accountability tour, titled ‘Honesty and Results,’ with a massive rally in Mexico City’s Zócalo. The tour, which visited all 32 federal entities, drew an estimated 850,000 attendees. During her speeches, Sheinbaum emphasized national sovereignty, stating that no foreign power or economic elite has the right to dictate Mexico’s future.
Sheinbaum highlighted several administration achievements, including the constitutional recognition of social welfare, health, and education as rights. In Mexico City, she reported an investment of 70,258 million pesos in welfare programs benefiting 3 million residents. In Sonora, she noted the return of 45,000 hectares of land to the Yaqui people, the recovery of 1.5 billion pesos for the remediation of the Sonora River, and various infrastructure projects such as highway modernizations and the expansion of the Puerto Peñasco photovoltaic plant.
The President also addressed a constitutional reform passed by the Chamber of Deputies that would prohibit candidates for the presidency, governorships, or the head of government of Mexico City from holding dual nationality. While the event aimed to project unity and progress, some digital observers and local groups raised concerns regarding security issues and the authenticity of the large crowds.
