Veracruz government announces infrastructure investments and industrial recovery

Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle García and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo have announced several major initiatives for the state. President Sheinbaum announced significant investments in infrastructure, health, education, housing, and agricultural support, including plans for over 100,000 homes and 1,300 medical clinics.

In the agricultural sector, Governor Nahle noted that 170,000 farmers in Veracruz received support in 2026 through programs for seeds and fertilizers. Additionally, 2.8 million residents currently benefit from federal welfare programs. Regarding industrial recovery, the state government is working to reactivate the San Pedro sugar mill; approximately 900 workers have already received liquidations as the legal framework for its operation is being analyzed.

On security, the state reported 22 homicides between September 1 and 13, placing Veracruz 10th nationally. Governor Nahle stated that authorities are investigating links to drug trafficking and extortion in several recent cases. Finally, due to Independence Day celebrations, classes at all educational levels in Veracruz will be suspended on September 15 and 16.
