Claudia Sheinbaum begins national tour to inspect IMSS-Bienestar hospitals

President Claudia Sheinbaum has launched a national tour to inspect hospitals and health centers within the 24 states operating under the IMSS-Bienestar system. The tour, which includes visits to Hidalgo and the State of Mexico, aims to identify infrastructure needs, evaluate medical staffing, and oversee the digitalization of medical records.

In response to recent protests by IMSS workers and retirees regarding labor conditions and salary demands, IMSS Director General Zoé Robledo has called for dialogue. Robledo confirmed that a labor consultation regarding a proposed 6.8 percent salary increase—comprising a 2.9 percent increase to base salary and 3.9 percent in benefits—will take place on October 14.

Robledo also addressed challenges regarding service saturation and medication supplies, noting that while the institution has added 109,000 workers since 2019, approximately 6 percent of prescriptions remain incomplete. To combat these issues, the government is working toward a goal of adding 10,000 hospital beds by 2030 and expanding specialized services such as hemodialysis and pediatric cancer care.
