Claudia Sheinbaum approached by mother seeking missing sons

Liliana Pérez, a searching mother, has appealed directly to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum for assistance in locating her two sons, Luis Emanuel and Marvin Valentín Nanga Pérez. The pair reportedly disappeared on February 28, 2024, in the municipality of Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, after being taken from their home by armed men.

Pérez noted that one of her sons, Luis Emanuel, was an active member of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) assigned to the Seventh Military Region. She alleged that Sedena has distanced itself from the case, classifying her son as a deserter rather than investigating his disappearance.

During an encounter outside the VII Military Region Headquarters, President Sheinbaum listened to Pérez's plea and accepted a folder containing documentation regarding the case. Pérez stated that the President promised support and provided a tracking number for the follow-up of her request.
