Claudia Sheinbaum attributes Tren Maya incidents to human error

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has rejected claims that recent incidents involving the Tren Maya project are due to poor infrastructure, low-quality materials, or inadequate maintenance. During a press conference, she attributed the recorded incidents primarily to human error.

Sheinbaum emphasized that the railway undergoes permanent maintenance and is supervised by the Agencia de Transporte Ferroviario. While she denied systemic issues, she acknowledged that two trains experienced technical problems with specific equipment. She noted that these issues were addressed in coordination with the company Alstom, leading to temporary halts for certain units, but maintained that the system continues to operate normally.

To address public concerns and counter misinformation, the federal government has instructed the Tren Maya director to issue a detailed report regarding the preventive and corrective maintenance work performed on the network. Additionally, officials from the managing companies are expected to report on operations at the National Palace in early October.
