Claudia Sheinbaum Gains Support from Mexican Lawmakers on Sovereignty
Senator Saúl Monreal of Zacatecas, a member of the Morena party, announced his unconditional backing for President Claudia Sheinbaum, echoing former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s call to defend Mexican sovereignty. Monreal stressed that relations with the United States should be based on dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation, rejecting any attempts to use electoral politics or economic pressure – such as tariffs, cartel designations and extradition requests – to impose foreign demands.
Legislator Fabiola Alanís of Michoacán also reaffirmed her support for Sheinbaum, highlighting the achievements of the Fourth Transformation. She cited social programs that now assist more than 1.5 million Michoacanos, a historic investment of over 40 billion pesos annually, and praised initiatives such as pensions for seniors, the Mujeres Bienestar program, scholarships and the Plan Michoacán for Peace and Justice. Alanís called for national unity against any external interference, stressing that Mexico must remain a free, sovereign nation.
Both officials framed their statements as a collective defense of national sovereignty and a continuation of the social‑justice agenda championed by the current administration.
