Claudia Sheinbaum holds frequent calls with Donald Trump over trade
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is maintaining frequent communication with U.S. President Donald Trump as part of ongoing trade and bilateral negotiations. Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard reported that Sheinbaum has held approximately 20 to 21 telephone calls with Trump to discuss commercial matters, including the most recent conversation held last Friday.
The diplomatic efforts focus on critical issues such as trade, security, migration, and the upcoming review of the USMCA. Ebrard noted that Mexico is viewed as a reference point in these negotiations and emphasized that the relationship remains fluid. He recently met with officials from the U.S. Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., to prepare for a fourth round of negotiations.
As Sheinbaum approaches her second government report, the administration is navigating the challenge of maintaining national sovereignty while managing a relationship with the United States, Mexico's primary trading partner and most influential foreign actor.
