Claudia Sheinbaum expands public education in Hidalgo and Guanajuato
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has inaugurated a new campus of the Universidad Nacional Rosario Castellanos (UNRC) in Tecozautla, Hidalgo. The campus currently serves approximately 300 students across four degree programs: Community Tourism, Medicine, Administration and Commerce, and Law and Criminology. Sheinbaum announced a strategic goal to double the university's national enrollment from 120,000 to 240,000 students by the end of her administration.
During a visit to Celaya, Guanajuato, the President addressed concerns regarding school fees at the Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Industrial y de Servicios (CBTIS) No. 198. Following reports from parents about mandatory payments, Sheinbaum ordered the immediate elimination of all enrollment and tuition fees at the institution, stating the federal government would cover these costs. She also announced plans to construct a new UNRC campus in Celaya starting in 2027.
In Guanajuato, the administration is also managing significant educational investments, including 6.338 billion pesos allocated for various student scholarships. The President emphasized that strengthening public education is a core pillar of her national transformation strategy, aimed at reducing violence and advancing women's rights.
