Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurates new university in Nicolás Romero

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the Nicolás Romero Academic Unit of the Universidad Nacional Rosario Castellanos (UNRC) in the State of Mexico. The new campus will serve 800 students across seven undergraduate programs, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Law and Citizen Security, and Psychology.

During the event, Sheinbaum announced the implementation of the Gertrudis Bocanegra scholarship, a financial aid program designed to assist university students with transportation costs, similar to the Benito Juárez scholarship for high school students. Due to high demand, the President also announced plans to expand the campus and construct the Margarita Maza National High School in the municipality.

Sheinbaum emphasized that education is a primary tool to combat violence, crime, and corruption. She reiterated the federal government's goal to create 400,000 new high school spaces and over 350,000 new higher education spots by the end of her term. For the Nicolás Romero unit, 400 applicants who could not secure in-person placement will begin their studies through distance learning.
