Mexico expands Beca Rita Cetina school‑aid cards to thousands of primary students

The federal government’s Beca Rita Cetina programme, administered through Banco del Bienestar, distributed school‑aid cards to primary‑school families in several Mexican states. In Cancún, Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama handed out 1,233 cards that will deposit 2,500 pesos per student for the 2026‑2027 school year, part of an investment of over 237 million pesos that will eventually cover about 95 000 pupils in the state. In Tuxpan, Veracruz, 289 students received cards, while President Claudia Sheinbaum led a delivery in Minatitlán that targets more than 1.3 million Veracruz primary students with a 9.4 billion‑peso allocation. Nationwide the programme aims to support roughly 9 million primary pupils, offering a bimonthly stipend of 1,900 pesos per child (with extra amounts for multiple siblings) to reduce dropout caused by uniform and material costs.

The deliveries were presented as part of the administration’s broader strategy to guarantee universal education, combat poverty and keep children in public schools. Officials highlighted the coordination among federal, state and municipal governments and stressed that the cards will be issued directly to parents or tutors who registered the student, with additional collection dates offered for those who miss the initial schedule.
