Claudia Sheinbaum meets with Ayotzinapa parents regarding new investigation lines

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum met with the parents of the 43 Ayotzinapa students missing since 2014 to discuss progress in the investigation. During the nearly three-hour meeting at the National Palace, prosecutor Mauricio Pasarán presented new lines of investigation and updates regarding the case.

Sheinbaum stated that the parents were “very receptive” to the information provided and agreed to continue meeting to advance the case. However, the families' attorney, Isidoro Vicario, noted that while there have been advances in areas such as cellular telephony data, they remain far from discovering the whereabouts of the students.

The families also addressed the detention of former Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre Rivero. They urged the federal government to strengthen the evidence against him during the four-month complementary investigation period. The parents continue to seek access to military archives to gain more clarity on the disappearance.
