Guadalupe Taddei resigns as INE president amid corruption allegations

Guadalupe Taddei Zavala has announced her resignation as president of Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE), to be formally presented to the Chamber of Deputies on Monday, October 26, 2026. Her departure follows intense scrutiny regarding alleged conflicts of interest and irregularities in the awarding of multimillion-peso contracts to specific providers.

The Auditoría Superior de la Federación (ASF) has launched an official investigation into the potential misuse of public resources and the triangulation of funds. Reports have highlighted connections between the presidency and companies such as Cajas Graf and Corporativo ZEG, as well as links to businessman José Alfredo Hernández Casillas. Some allegations also involve nepotism related to Taddei’s family members.

In response to the crisis, the INE has implemented leadership changes in key executive and administrative areas. While the ten remaining counselors failed to reach an immediate agreement on a provisional president, the Executive Secretariat will lead sessions temporarily. The Chamber of Deputies is expected to approve a call for a new presidential selection process as the institute works to maintain operations for the 2026-2027 Federal Electoral Process.
