Claudia Sheinbaum prepares for APEC summit in China
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is evaluating a trip to Shenzhen, China, to attend the APEC summit scheduled for November 18 and 19. The president is considering traveling on a commercial flight to manage the long travel time and ensure her return to Mexico in time to lead the Mexican Revolution anniversary parade on November 20.
This visit would mark Sheinbaum’s first official trip to China. Her attendance is considered essential as Mexico is set to assume the APEC presidency in 2028. The trip occurs amidst significant trade tensions and ongoing negotiations regarding the T-MEC (USMCA) agreement.
Additionally, Sheinbaum expressed confidence in Mexico’s economic growth through 2026 and 2027. She noted that ongoing public and mixed investment tenders for major infrastructure projects, including trains, highways, and hydraulic works, are expected to drive long-term economic stability. She also highlighted that national housing policies are currently stimulating the economy by engaging real estate developers.
