Mexico: President Sheinbaum reports economic resilience ahead of second report

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has expressed strong optimism regarding the nation's economic and social trajectory ahead of her second government report, scheduled for September 1. She highlighted a resilient economy that has maintained stability despite international trade pressures and tariffs imposed by the United States, particularly affecting the automotive sector.

Key economic indicators cited include a 1.5% quarterly GDP growth in the second quarter and an annual inflation rate of 3.12% in July. To mitigate external volatility, the administration is advancing 'Plan México,' a strategy focused on strengthening the domestic market and substituting strategic imports. This includes the development of 'Polos de Desarrollo para el Bienestar' to attract private investment and facilitate industrial relocation.

In terms of security, the government reported a 51% reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides, dropping from 86.9 in September 2024 to 42.5 in July 2026. Sheinbaum also noted improvements in quality of life and social welfare. Following her report, the President plans to tour all 32 Mexican states to showcase national infrastructure projects.
