Claudia Sheinbaum requests official departure of Leonel Cota to avoid electoral conflicts

President Claudia Sheinbaum has requested that Leonel Cota Montaño step down from his position as Undersecretary of Agriculture and Rural Development to prevent potential allegations of using public institutions for electoral purposes. This decision follows the appointment of his son, Manuel Cota Cárdenas, as a political coordinator for the Morena party in Baja California Sur.

Sheinbaum stated that the separation is necessary to ensure that the Ministry of Agriculture is not perceived as supporting specific candidates or political parties. She noted that Cota Montaño agreed with the move to avoid confusion between his public duties and his son’s political activities. While leaving his government post, Cota Montaño may potentially collaborate with Morena in a partisan capacity, possibly in a different state.

In Baja California Sur, Manuel Cota announced the conclusion of the municipal coordination phase for the ‘4T’ movement. He emphasized that the restructuring process aims to maintain transparency and unity within the party. Cota clarified that no official candidacies have been assigned or committed to at this stage, seeking to dispel rumors regarding pre-arranged political agreements.
