Claudia Sheinbaum responds to Donald Trump’s UN remarks
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to allegations made by Donald Trump during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, where he labeled Mexico the “epicenter of cartel violence.”
In her morning press conference, Sheinbaum countered by highlighting domestic issues within the United States, noting the high levels of illicit drug consumption and firearm production in the neighboring country. She remarked, “It is very difficult to live next to a country that has such a high level of illicit drug consumption,” and similarly noted the challenges posed by American arms production, though she stated she would not use those points as direct attacks.
Sheinbaum emphasized that the Mexican government maintains a cooperative security relationship with the United States administration. However, she urged U.S. politicians to refrain from using Mexico as a tool for domestic political campaigns, particularly ahead of the upcoming November elections in the United States.
