Claudia Sheinbaum responds to Trump's UN remarks on Mexico FAST-MOVING

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has responded to criticisms from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding drug trafficking and cartel control. During his address to the UN General Assembly, Trump labeled Mexico the ‘epicenter’ of cartel violence and demanded the nation regain control of its territory. Sheinbaum avoided direct confrontation, instead emphasizing the continued security coordination between the two nations. She noted that while she could point to high drug consumption and weapon production in the United States as contributing factors, she chose not to use them as points of contention to preserve the bilateral relationship.

Separately, Sheinbaum confirmed she will travel to Shenzhen, China, in November to attend the APEC summit. She explained that this visit is crucial as Mexico is set to host the APEC forum in 2028 and must receive the leadership baton. She also addressed her decision to skip the UN General Assembly, stating that she chooses her international engagements based on specific timing and necessity.

Domestically, Sheinbaum has been active with regional reports, including an upcoming event in Puebla, and has defended a constitutional reform requiring candidates for high executive offices to hold only Mexican nationality.
