Claudia Sheinbaum warns of US interference, stays cautious on Colombia vote

President Claudia Sheinbaum said that former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s main worry was possible U.S. agency involvement in the capture and transfer of drug lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, stressing Mexico’s sovereignty and that any U.S. intelligence sharing would be acted upon by Mexican forces, not as foreign meddling.

Sheinbaum also adopted a restrained diplomatic tone on the Colombian presidential election, stating she would wait for official results before congratulating the winner and noting the possibility that U.S. right‑wing actors could seek to influence Mexico’s own elections in 2027 and 2030.
