Claudia Sheinbaum wears Muxe-embroidered dress for Independence Day

During the 216th Anniversary of Mexico's Independence Day, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo wore a custom-made dress honoring the textile traditions of the Muxe artisans from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca.

The garment features a wide black skirt adorned with hand-embroidered roses and dahlias in vibrant colors, designed to resemble a characteristic garden of the Oaxacan region. The embroidery was handcrafted using a hook needle technique by artisans Elvis Guerra, Dayari Ramírez, Reyna Montero, and Lorena Martínez, members of the Biulú workshop located in Juchitán de Zaragoza. The floral patterns utilize an ancient design inherited from Elvis Guerra's grandmother, Petrona.

The dress was designed by Thelma Islas Lagunas and Crystel S. Martínez Torres, with construction handled by Saúl Mosqueda. This choice follows a pattern of the President utilizing Mexican seamstresses, designers, and artisans for significant national ceremonies, such as her use of Nahua embroidery during the 2025 celebrations.
