On Sunday 9 August 2026, Mexico will hold its first National Reforestation Day, a coordinated effort across all 32 states, 621 municipalities and 1 632 agrarian nuclei. The government aims to plant more than 6.6 million trees and plants on roughly 32 000 hectares, with an expected participation of about 235 000 volunteers, public officials and students.

President Claudia Sheinbaum will launch the event from the Iztaccíhuatl‑Popocatépetl National Park in Puebla. Federal, state and municipal authorities will take part, and the program will use drones for the first time to disperse pelletised seeds. States such as Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala, the State of México and others have announced their own planting targets, ranging from more than 15 000 seedlings in Nuevo León to 80 495 trees in Tlaxcala. The municipality of Zinacantepec received a voucher for 10 900 trees to support its local reforestation actions.
