Claudio Barrelier detained in Córdoba femicide of Agostina Vega

Claudio Barrelier, a former municipal employee linked to the Córdoba Peronist network, has been arrested as the sole suspect in the femicide of Agostina Vega. Testimony from Soledad, the woman who lent Barrelier a black Ford Ka, indicates that Barrelier contacted her on May 25 requesting the car, claiming he needed it to deliver clothing to a relative. Soledad described a “bad feeling” but complied, noting that Barrelier later returned the vehicle after an hour, with a faint smell of cigarette. The investigation revealed Barrelier’s prior connections to the local barrabrava and a prior allegation of rape. Following the murder, Barrelier attempted suicide in custody and was sedated. The case has highlighted concerns over political influence and violence against women in the region.
