Claudio Carsughi, iconic sports and automotive journalist, dies at 93

Claudio Carsughi, a prominent Brazilian sports and automotive journalist, has died at the age of 93. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Claudia Carsughi, following a 27-day hospitalization due to a respiratory infection.

Born in Arezzo, Italy, Carsughi moved to Brazil in 1946. He built a career spanning over seven decades, becoming a leading authority on Formula 1 and automotive technology. He held significant roles at Rádio Jovem Pan for nearly 60 years and served as an editor and technical evaluator for Quatro Rodas magazine between 1975 and 1990.

An engineer by training from the University of São Paulo, Carsughi was noted for his analytical approach to vehicle testing. His career included coverage for major outlets such as ESPN Brasil, SporTV, and TV Globo. He was also a correspondent for Italian publications like Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport. F1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi paid tribute to him, describing him as an “iconic journalist” who was a great loss to Brazilian sports.
