SmartFilms Dominicana announces Claudio Cataño as international guest

The Dominican audiovisual industry is seeing significant developments through festival participation and international recognition. SmartFilms Dominicana has announced Colombian actor Claudio Cataño, known for his role as Aureliano Buendía in the Netflix adaptation of ‘Cien años de soledad’, as the first international guest for its second edition. The festival, scheduled for September 18 and 19, focuses on training and experience exchange for new and professional talent.

Producer Danilo Reynoso has called for increased state support to expand opportunities for Dominican audiovisual talent, noting that the industry requires stronger public-private partnerships to reach more communities.

In international news, the Dominican collective QORSA has achieved a milestone with a nomination at the 2026 Motor Film Awards in Los Angeles. Their independent production, ‘Meant to be Driven’, is the first Dominican nomination in this category, competing in the Independent Film section.
