Claudio Martelli to present new book on Giovanni Falcone

Claudio Martelli is set to present his new book, ‘Vita e persecuzione di Giovanni Falcone’ (Life and Persecution of Giovanni Falcone), on August 28 in Torre Sant’Antonio. The work explores the deep personal and institutional connection between Martelli, a former Minister of Justice, and the renowned anti-mafia magistrate.

The book details Falcone’s period in Rome working under the Direction General of Criminal Affairs. Martelli aims to highlight the isolation Falcone faced and the institutional opposition he encountered within the judiciary and government.

Historical accounts clarify that Falcone’s move to the Ministry was intended to facilitate the creation of a ‘Superprocura’—a national anti-mafia prosecutor's office designed to implement the collaborative investigative methods used in Palermo. This project aimed to unify investigations and proceedings under a single cohesive strategy, a goal that was cut short by Falcone’s assassination in 1992.
