Claudio Poggi confronted by workers over halted housing project

Construction workers in Villa Mercedes confronted Governor Claudio Poggi to demand the resumption of a housing project involving 42 homes. The workers expressed urgent economic concerns, stating, “La olla no espera” (The pot does not wait), to highlight their immediate need for employment.

Governor Poggi explained that the project was halted because the contracted company rescinded its agreement. He stated that he is currently working to find a new company to take over the construction, noting that work cannot proceed without a contractor. While acknowledging the importance of completing the homes for the 42 families waiting for them, Poggi declined to intervene in a separate grievance raised by workers regarding the Unión Obrera de la Construcción de la República Argentina (UOCRA), stating he cannot interfere in union conflicts.

The workers also alleged that the union is unfairly directing job opportunities exclusively to its members, excluding other laborers. The governor was accompanied during the encounter by provincial officials and the Mayor of Villa Mercedes, Maximiliano Frontera.
