ClawCon Nairobi highlights the rise of personal AI agents

More than 400 developers, entrepreneurs, and technology professionals gathered at Strathmore University for the inaugural ClawCon Nairobi. The conference focused on the rise of personal AI assistants and autonomous AI agents, marking a shift from traditional chatbots toward systems capable of executing tasks and automating workflows.

A central topic of discussion was OpenClaw, an open-source personal AI assistant. This technology can operate on local computers, servers, or cloud environments and can connect to various digital services and communication channels with user permission. Unlike generic AI, these systems can be tailored to specific individual or organizational needs, supporting tasks such as research, software development, and administrative coordination.

Participants noted the potential for these tools to increase productivity among African professionals and students. Developer Frank Odongkara highlighted that OpenClaw offers an affordable way to integrate intelligent assistants into existing platforms like WhatsApp.
