Clayface debuts at number one with $43 million global opening

DC Studios' horror-themed film “Clayface” secured the top spot at the North American box office, earning an estimated $24 million during its opening weekend. The film, which blends comic book storytelling with body horror, earned an additional $19 million internationally, bringing its global opening total to approximately $43 million.

Produced on a relatively modest budget of $44 million, the film marks a strategic shift for DC Studios under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. This lower production cost provides a path to profitability that previous high-budget releases, such as “Supergirl,” lacked. The film stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen and has received a strong audience response, earning an A- CinemaScore.

While “Clayface” took the top position, A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary, “You Can See Everything,” showed significant strength. In its second weekend of wide release, the documentary earned $19.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $45.1 million and positioning it as one of the highest-grossing documentaries in history.
