Clean Transport Zone debates continue in Kraków and Warsaw

In Kraków, an electronic signature collection has launched for a civic project aimed at modifying the Clean Transport Zone (SCT). Led by Jan Hoffman, a mayoral candidate and referendum movement leader, the initiative seeks to reduce the zone's area, ease emission standards, extend transition periods, and clarify exceptions. Hoffman proposes that residents decide the final shape of the zone through a consultative referendum.

Meanwhile, in Warsaw, reports indicate the SCT has been operational for two years. Data cited by the Warsaw Smog Alarm suggests that between 2023 and 2025, the average annual concentration of nitrogen dioxide within the zone decreased by 18 percent, compared to a 5 percent decrease outside the zone. While factors such as weather and increased use of public transport or electric vehicles play a role, the data shows a notable difference in air quality within the city center. Current regulations in Warsaw primarily affect older vehicles, with 96 percent of entering cars already meeting the required standards.
