Cleanup efforts in Sri Lanka and Election Commission response in India

In Akkaraippattu, Sri Lanka, a special beach cleaning initiative was conducted at the Chinna Mukthuvaram coastal area to mark International Coastal Cleanup Day and National Ocean Resources Protection Week. Led by officials from the Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), the operation involved the military, navy, civil defense forces, and local government employees. Participants collected approximately 250.154 kilograms of waste, including plastic, polythene, glass, and organic debris, which were sorted and recorded for proper disposal.

In India, the Election Commission addressed reports regarding internal disagreements among its members. Following claims that commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised 14 objections to decisions made without their approval—specifically concerning Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls—the Commission clarified that differing opinions are a natural part of the decision-making process. The Commission stated that all actions are conducted under Article 324 of the Constitution and that such discussions aim to improve electoral processes and protect voter rights.
