Clearlake Capital nears full takeover of Chelsea FC

Clearlake Capital is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire full ownership of Chelsea Football Club. The fund, controlled by Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, intends to buy out minority investors Todd Boehly, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss.

This transaction would increase Clearlake’s stake from 61.5% to 99.9%. While the original 2022 acquisition agreement included a ten-year restriction on stake sales, a clause permitted transactions between consortium partners. The buyout would end a four-year partnership marked by management shifts and club instability.

Mark Walter’s spokesperson confirmed interest in the transaction, noting it would be valued at a premium over his initial investment. Behdad Eghbali has managed the club’s day-to-day operations since January 2023, amidst reported challenges in the relationship with Boehly.
