Clemens Pig named ORF chief director to revamp Austria's public broadcaster

Clemens Pig, the former chief executive of the Austria Press Agency, has been appointed the new General Director of ORF. In his candidacy he pledged to transform the state broadcaster into a "platform of society," emphasizing stronger digital presence, clearer editorial direction, simplified organization and greater public accountability. Pig highlighted the need for a democratic‑centre editorial line, expert monitoring of voices, and enhanced discoverability of Austrian content across all genres.

In a separate interview, Falstaff publisher Wolfgang Rosam criticised the current government's fiscal management and called for a more courageous media policy. He affirmed the importance of a strong public‑service broadcaster for Austrian democracy and culture, suggesting that regional quality newspapers could run ORF's state studios. Rosam also outlined the growth of his Falstaff magazine brand, now approaching €50 million in revenue and operating in 13 countries, underscoring the broader challenges and opportunities facing Austria's media landscape.
