Clemens Westerhof, former Super Eagles coach, hospitalized with cancer
Former Super Eagles coach Clemens Westerhof has been diagnosed with colon cancer and is currently in critical condition at Rijnstate Hospital in Arnhem, Netherlands. The 86-year-old Dutch tactician had been living with Alzheimer’s disease prior to this recent diagnosis.
Westerhof’s wife, Lilian, confirmed the news, stating that the family is devastated by the development. She expressed dissatisfaction with the care provided at the Arnhem facility and indicated she is considering transferring him to a medical center in Amsterdam or Germany.
Westerhof is a highly prominent figure in Nigerian football history. During his tenure as head coach, he led Nigeria to victory in the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and guided the Super Eagles to their first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance that same year.
