Clemente Mastella discusses cancer diagnosis and personal reflections

Clemente Mastella, the Mayor of Benevento and former Minister of Justice, has shared personal reflections regarding his recent cancer diagnosis. In recent interviews, Mastella described the initial period following the diagnosis as a time of intense anguish and insomnia, noting that the news was unexpected and deeply unsettling.

He expressed significant concern for the future of his family, specifically his children and grandchildren, contemplating their lives in his absence. Despite the emotional difficulty, Mastella stated that he maintains hope for overcoming the illness.

Reflecting on mortality and faith, the former parliamentarian noted that while death is an inevitable reality, it is not an obsession for him. He shared his Catholic perspective on the afterlife, suggesting he believes he will go to the ‘upper part’ of purgatory, remarking that heaven might be reserved for figures like Tommaso Moro or De Gasperi, while asserting he has not done harm to deserve hell.
