LSU defeats Clemson 51-10 in dominant season opener
No. 11 LSU secured a dominant 51-10 victory over Clemson in their season opener at Tiger Stadium. The win marked a successful debut for LSU head coach Lane Kiffin, whose offense produced 644 total yards. Quarterback Sam Leavitt contributed 230 passing yards and one touchdown, while adding 113 rushing yards and two scores. Running back Dilin Jones also recorded 113 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Clemson struggled significantly, managing only 145 total yards. The Tigers' offense was hampered by poor execution, including only one first down in the first half and failing to convert on third downs. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney described the result as an “embarrassing performance” and noted that the team was “outplayed and outcoached in every facet.”
The game featured a nearly two-hour weather delay due to rain and lightning. Amidst the victory, LSU fans expressed dissatisfaction with former quarterback Jayden Daniels, booing his image on the stadium video board following a legal dispute regarding his name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights and the reissuing of his jersey number.
