Clemson football updates: Morris moves to coaches' box and Hampton earns praise

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has provided updates regarding key personnel within the football program. Offensive coordinator Chad Morris, who returned to Clemson for the 2026 season after a 12-year absence, has transitioned from coaching on the sideline to the coaches' box. The move followed a period of offensive struggles, including a 41-point loss to LSU and a disorganized victory over Georgia Southern, with the coaching staff determining that freshman quarterback Tait Reynolds required less sideline chaos to improve performance.

On the defensive side, Swinney highlighted cornerback Ashton Hampton as a standout player. After initially noting a need for Hampton to develop more maturity, Swinney praised the player's growth and impact. Hampton has recorded seven pass breakups, eight pass deflections, and an interception during the first four games of the season, establishing himself as a key component of the Tigers' secondary.
