Clemson secures first 2028 recruiting commitment from quarterback Trace Hawkins

Four‑star quarterback Trace Hawkins of Calhoun, Georgia, announced his verbal commitment to the Clemson Tigers for the 2028 recruiting class, becoming the program’s first pledge for that cycle. Hawkins chose Clemson over other finalists that included LSU, Duke, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Virginia Tech, citing the Tigers’ fast‑paced, spread offense as a good fit for his skills.

Hawkins, a 6‑foot‑1, 185‑pound prospect, posted 2,442 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, three interceptions and three rushing touchdowns last season. He visited Clemson multiple times, attended the spring elite day and a June camp, and was formally offered after impressing head coach Dabo Swinney and offensive coordinator Chad Morris. He will compete with existing quarterbacks Christopher Vizzina and freshman Tait Reynolds for the starting role.
