Clemson Tigers football faces scrutiny after disappointing preseason scrimmage

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney expressed significant dissatisfaction following the team’s final preseason intersquad scrimmage. Swinney described the session as “the worst day we’ve had,” citing a lack of focus, mental errors, and “dumb penalties,” particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

The scrimmage served as a final opportunity for reserve players to compete for spots on the travel roster ahead of the season opener against LSU on September 5. However, Swinney noted that several players were “exposed” by the intensity of the session. The coach attributed the poor performance to distractions and the physical rigor of fall camp.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the Tigers are preparing for a schedule that includes matchups against Georgia Southern, North Carolina, and Cal. Swinney emphasized the need to correct mistakes before the team travels to Baton Rouge for their season debut.
