Clergy deaths reported for Monsenhors in Brazil and Portugal

Two prominent Catholic clergymen have passed away in Brazil and Portugal.

Monsenhor João de Deus Góis, the emeritus parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Del Castilho, died at age 92. He dedicated 65 years to the priesthood, entering the seminary at age 14. His services were primarily centered within the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro. Funeral services are scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro following a wake at the Basilica of São Francisco Xavier.

In Portugal, Monsenhor Domingos Ferreira de Araújo passed away at age 78. He was a long-standing figure in the Caxinas community in Vila do Conde, serving as parish priest for over 40 years until 2020. Ordained in 1973, he was granted the title of Monsenhor by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. His funeral mass will be presided over by the Archbishop of Braga.
