Clergy martyrdoms: Florentino Asensio Barroso and Francisco López-Gasco

Historical accounts detail the martyrdom of two Catholic figures during the period of the Spanish Civil War: Florentino Asensio Barroso and Francisco López-Gasco Fernández-Largo.

Florentino Asensio Barroso, who served as the Bishop of Barbastro after being appointed by Pope Pius XI, was a professor of Metaphysics and Theology in Valladolid before his episcopal appointment. His tenure in Barbastro was marked by his pastoral zeal.

Francisco López-Gasco Fernández-Largo, the parish priest of La Villa de D. Fadrique, was subjected to severe mistreatment, including physical torture and humiliation, before his death. A scholar who studied in Rome, he served as a professor and chaplain in Toledo before being assigned to his final parish, where he was killed alongside other prisoners.
