Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken criticizes Tytus Howard and Steelers veterans
Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken has addressed recent team struggles, specifically targeting offensive line errors and making controversial remarks regarding Pittsburgh Steelers veterans.
Following a 21-18 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Monken criticized offensive tackle Tytus Howard for multiple false starts. Howard, who signed a two-year, $45 million contract extension, committed three false starts during the game. Monken stated that while Howard has battled through injuries, repeated pre-snap mistakes are ‘not kosher’ and must be corrected to prevent the team from ‘hurting Browns.’ The team has struggled with discipline, ranking among the worst in the league for penalties per game.
In a separate matter, Monken drew attention to comments made regarding Steelers players T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward. Speaking in jest, Monken suggested it was ‘about time’ the veterans retired due to their long-standing dominance in the AFC North. While intended as a compliment to their longevity, the comments have raised concerns about potential backlash from the Steelers ahead of their upcoming Thursday night matchup.
