Za’Darius Smith signs with Atlanta Falcons after Browns rumors

Veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith has signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons, opting for a reunion with head coach Kevin Stefanski over a projected return to the Cleveland Browns.

While reports initially suggested Smith was finalizing a deal with Cleveland following a successful workout, the three-time Pro Bowler clarified his status on social media, noting he had additional workouts scheduled. Smith subsequently worked out for the Falcons and accepted a deal worth $6 million, with incentives potentially reaching $8 million.

The move provides immediate depth for Atlanta’s pass rush, which has been impacted by an eight-game suspension for James Pearce Jr. and a season-ending ACL injury to Jalon Walker. Smith, 33, brings 11 years of NFL experience and 70.5 career sacks to the Falcons' defensive rotation.
