Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler, is exploring a return to the NFL after previously retiring in October following a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. Having previously played for Cleveland, Smith would provide veteran depth and experience to a defensive front that has seen significant changes, including the departure of Myles Garrett.

If signed, the 33-year-old edge rusher would serve as a rotational option alongside players such as Jared Verse and Alex Wright. The team's search for veteran leadership in the trenches comes as they prepare for their preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.
