Jacksonville Jaguars rout Cleveland Browns 34-10 in NFL opener
The Jacksonville Jaguars dominated the Cleveland Browns with a 34-10 victory in their NFL season opener. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence led the offense, throwing four touchdown passes and finishing with a career-high rating of 150.6.
In contrast, the Browns' offense struggled significantly in the debut of new head coach Todd Monken. Deshaun Watson, making his first start in nearly two years following Achilles injuries, completed 16 of 22 passes for 205 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Watson faced heavy criticism from fans and media, particularly after an early interception and being sacked five times. Despite the poor performance, Monken indicated that Watson would remain the starter for Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stating, “We’ll evaluate everything.”
The loss has intensified scrutiny regarding the Browns' $230 million investment in Watson and sparked calls from supporters to start second-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Additionally, the Browns dealt with injuries, including left guard Zion Johnson, though Monken noted the news on Johnson was not dire.
