Cleveland Browns open practice window for QB Dillon Gabriel

The Cleveland Browns have opened a 21-day practice window for quarterback Dillon Gabriel following his move to injured reserve due to a back injury. Gabriel, a 2025 third-round pick, has remained involved with the team by attending meetings and traveling with the squad during his recovery.

Deshaun Watson addressed the potential roster congestion in the quarterback room, praising Gabriel as a “great teammate” and noting that the group remains focused on team success. The Browns currently have Watson as the starter, with Shedeur Sanders and Gabriel potentially competing for backup roles. If Gabriel is promoted, the team may look to utilize Taylen Green in an emergency capacity.

Additionally, the Browns have designated defensive tackle Kalia Davis for return. Because Davis was placed on injured reserve after the August 30 roster deadline, his return does not count toward the team’s eight regular-season activations. The team also made moves to the practice squad, signing wide receiver James Proche and defensive tackle Chris Williams while releasing running back Eric Gray, offensive lineman Xavier Truss, and punter Wes Pahl.
