Cleveland Browns QB Battle Between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson Unsettled

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken said the competition for the starting quarterback position between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson will likely remain undecided after the mandatory minicamp, which concludes Thursday. Monken noted that both players have performed well enough to earn the right to compete for the job.

Watson, who has 72 career starts, missed the entire 2025 season after multiple surgeries on his right Achilles tendon. Sanders, a rookie last season, appeared in eight games (seven starts), completing 56.6% of his passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and ten interceptions. The Browns' offensive approach is expected to change under Monken, entering his first season as head coach after three years as Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator. The top spot on the depth chart will stay open until preseason games provide further clarity.
